One feared dead after lorry ferrying alcohol rams into hardware shop in Kiambu
By Paulette Mboga, October 26, 2025One person is feared dead on Saturday, October 25, 2025, afternoon after a lorry ferrying alcoholic drinks rammed into a hardware shop along Mutarakwa at Limuru Junction in Kiambu County.
The accident caused panic in the busy area as the lorry lost control and crashed into the building, trapping one person inside.

According to witnesses, the lorry was speeding downhill before the driver appeared to lose control. The vehicle hit several obstacles before crashing into the hardware shop. Residents at the scene said the impact was so strong that the lorry was left hanging with its rear wheels suspended mid-air, while the front part was completely embedded inside the building.
Residents call for safety measures
Kiama Kamau, a resident who witnessed the accident, said it was a terrifying moment.
“Mimi nilikuwa nimetulia pale, gari ikashuka, mimi sikujua inaweza kupita hizi mawe. I thought itasimama hapa tu. Vile tunaona kwa movie, leo tumeona live live. Hii barabara iwekwe bumps,” the resident said.
The scene attracted bystanders and motorists who rushed to help in the rescue operation as emergency services and police arrived moments later.
The road was temporarily closed to allow recovery of the vehicle and removal of the debris from the damaged structure.

Officers from Limuru Police Station were deployed to the area to assist in clearing the scene and to begin investigations into the cause of the crash.
Another resident, Patrick Muthenji, said that the driver may have been unable to control the vehicle due to brake failure or excessive speed while descending the slope.
Following the accident, residents called on authorities to install bumps or warning signs along the road, which they described as prone to accidents. The body of the deceased was taken to a nearby mortuary as investigations continue.
Police also urged drivers of heavy commercial vehicles to observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles are properly serviced to prevent similar tragedies.
