The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leadership claims the electoral board, IEBC, is conspiring with Jubilee Party leaders to rig Imran Okoth out of the Kibra parliamentary race.

Junet Mohamed, ODM’s director of elections, claims two IEBC commissioners often “dine and enjoy breakfast every day with a (Jubilee Party) leader from Northern Kenya”.

Junet suggests the breakfasts and frequent meals by the commissioners and the Jubilee-affiliated leaders are used to plot the lock-out of Imran, the ODM flag-bearer in Kibra.

“[To express our disappointment at how IEBC is handling the planning of the Kibra by-election], we will be marching to the agency’s Anniversary Towers offices tomorrow [Wednesday, October 9] at 9am,” said Junet in a press conference at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday.

ODM chairperson, John Mbadi, piled pressure on the IEBC to make public the number of people registered to vote in Kibra.

“The IEBC has refused to learn from its past mistakes, including 2017. We demand transparency from them. Let them share with us details of their voters’ register in Kibra,” said Mbadi, adding: “We will go to their offices tomorrow to tell them that they must be transparent [in their dealings in Kibra].”

Imran Okoth will face off against Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga, ANC’s Eliud Owalo, among other competitors.

The IEBC is yet to respond to ODM’s allegations.
