ODM declares its stand on broad-based govt after Raila’s death

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the broad-based government arrangement following the death of its party leader, Raila Odinga.

Following the Central Committee meeting convened by party leaders on Monday, October 27, 2025, ODM said it remains loyal to the agreement made under Raila’s leadership and will uphold it until 2027.

“As the top leadership of this party, we shall pursue all causes he dedicated his life to, do everything within our power to uphold the unity of the party and apply lessons learnt from our departed leader and comrade in the service of the nation and the people he loved and fought for,” ODM noted in part of their resolution.

“We reiterate the commitment of the Party to the broad-based government until 2027, a relationship guided by the ten-point agenda entered into for the sake of peace and stability of the Country.”

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna made it clear that the partnership is based on a common understanding that goes beyond politics and focuses on the country’s well-being. He said ODM remains committed to promoting national unity, peace, and stability in line with the agreement reached between the party and the government.

Party to uphold Raila’s vision and unity

Sifuna reaffirmed that ODM will continue supporting the broad-based government until the next general election in 2027. “We reiterate the commitment of the Party to the broad-based government until 2027, a relationship guided by the ten-point agenda entered into for the sake of peace and stability of the Country,” he said.

He added that the party leadership is determined to ensure Raila’s vision of a united and prosperous Kenya is fulfilled, even in his absence. Sifuna said ODM will remain focused on the values Raila championed, including democracy, equity, and service to all Kenyans.

The statement comes amid questions about the party’s next steps following Raila’s death, with speculation over whether ODM would continue its cooperation with the government. Sifuna’s remarks now make it clear that ODM will maintain its position and work within the framework that Raila established before his death.

He said that ODM’s decision is meant to honour Raila’s legacy and safeguard the stability of the nation. The party, he said, will move forward with unity and purpose, guided by the principles and commitments laid down by its late leader.
