The acting-OCS of Mjambere Police Station in Kisauni, Mombasa died on Tuesday morning (November 26) after spending more than three hours drinking alcohol at a pub in Bombolulu.

Chief inspector William Chepkwony breathed his last at Cornerstone Pub.

Kisauni Sub-County Police Commander, Julius Kiragu, told K24 Digital that there were no physical injuries to indicate that Chepkwony was murdered.

“We have ruled out foul play in his death. However, the cause of his death remains unclear. A postmortem examination on Chepkwony will reveal — with certainty — what led to his demise,” said Kiragu, who claimed that the deceased had “no history of terminal illness(es)”.

Mary Kamene, a barmaid at Cornerstone Pub, recounted Chepkwony’s last moments.

“He arrived here at around 11pm Monday. After an hour or so, he left, but returned later at 4am Tuesday and ordered a few bottles of alcohol,” Kamene told K24 Digital.

“I felt sleepy, and went into a room in the pub to rest. All that while, the customer was seated in a tent outside the bar. He had told me that once he finishes taking his drinks, he would hail a bodaboda home.

“One hour later, I woke up and found Chepkwony writhing in pain. I suspected he was experiencing seizures. He was shrilling at the time as his body shook uncontrollably. Then, all of a sudden, his screams and body movements stopped. I touched him, but he was not responding. On looking up, I saw a passerby, whom I alerted. He came, examined Chepkwony’s pulse rate, and told me that he was already dead. We, thereafter, called police, who arrived and took the cop’s body to the Coast Provincial General Hospital mortuary,” narrated Kamene.
