South Africa’s NXG wallops Kenya’s Delta eSports to lift Carry1st Africa trophy
By Chrisphine Magak, November 24, 2024Noxious Gaming (NXG) from South Africa clinched the inaugural Carry1st Africa Cup title, defeating Kenya’s Delta eSports 3-1 in the final match held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in Nairobi.
The thrilling showdown was not without drama. NXG was stripped of a hardpoint victory after being found guilty of using a banned K9 unit during the map.
However, their overall dominance throughout the tournament secured them the championship title.
NXG advanced to the finals after overcoming Nigeria’s Sierra 7 in the semifinals, while Delta eSports knocked out Morocco’s SUN eSports in the first semifinal match.
Despite being clear underdogs, Delta eSports stunned fans with their impressive run. Their journey included a hard-fought victory over Ghana’s Aura233 on Saturday, followed by a controversial map replay on Sunday that sealed their semifinal spot.
As the runners-up, Delta eSports takes home a cash prize of $3,000, while NXG walks away with the grand prize of $5,000. NXG’s Bean Pole also pocketed $1000 after emerging as the MVP.
In third-place playoffs, Morocco’s SUN eSports was declared number 3 with Nigeria’s Sierra 7 finishing fourth.
As a result, SUN eSports went home with $1,800.
