NTSA on revalidation exercise
The warning comes after a revalidation exercise conducted by a multi-agency team comprising NTSA, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), the Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS), and other security agencies.
The exercise went down from November 11 to November 22, 2024.
NTSA said the initiative was aimed at enforcing compliance with the Traffic Act, Cap 403, and eliminating illegal operators in the motor vehicle dealership sector. Following the exercise, NTSA revealed that numerous dealers violate the law by failing to register vehicles within their possession.
“In undertaking its mandate, a multi-agency revalidation exercise comprising of National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS) and Security Agencies was initiated,” the authority stated.
Adding;
“The exercise aimed to ascertain compliance with relevant provisions of the law and to weed out non-compliant dealers operating illegally within the country. Following the completion of the initiative, the Authority notes that several motor vehicle dealers are holding unregistered vehicles within their premises (showrooms and yards) contrary to the requirements of the Traffic Act, Cap 403.”
In its advisory, the NTSA highlighted its commitment to ensuring compliance, stating that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take action against violators. Vehicles operating without registration plates or those misusing Kenya Dealer Plates (KD) will be impounded. Additionally, the respective dealers and owners will face legal action.
The authority has urged all motor vehicle dealers to finalize pending registration applications before the deadline to avoid penalties.
