NIS officer charged with being in possession of bhang, obtaining Ksh350, 000 by false pretence

A 37-year-old National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer attached to Elgeyo Marakwet County has been arraigned in court and charged with being in possession of Cannabis Sativa (bhang), three motor vehicles plate numbers and obtaining money by false pretence. 

Simon Wanjau Mwaura, who was arraigned at Milimani law courts, is alleged to have been in possession of bhang valued at Ksh120 which was not used for medical purposes on June 10, 2021.

He is also charged with obtaining Ksh350, 000 by false pretence.

The pars of the offence are that on that on November 3 at Transami along airport North Road in Embakasi sub-county within Nairobi county jointly with another before court with intent to defraud obtained Sh350,000 from Sammy Kipserem by falsely pretending that he was in a position to take his son for further studies in Australia a fact he knew to be false.

Simon who faces three counts is also alleged that on June 10, 2021, at around 6:30 pm at Lake View estate within Iten township in Elgeyo Marakwet was found with motor vehicle plate numbers KCZ675X, KCB675Q and KCX615S suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

He denied all the charges before Nairobi magistrate Jane Kamau and was released on a cash bail of Ksh300, 000 or Ksh500,000 bond.
