Ngunjiri explains why Kindiki is facing hostility in Mt Kenya
By David Nthua, July 31, 2025Kimani Ngunjiri, the former Bahati MP, has said the reason Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is facing hostility in the Mt Kenya region is that he is a very humble and peaceful man.
Speaking to Kameme TV on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the outspoken politician praised Kindiki as a brilliant academic but said politics requires a different kind of energy.
“Let me speak my mind. Kindiki is not gifted in politics. He is a very good professor. He even assisted my son at the University of Nairobi, where he was teaching law. But now, as you can see, these things coming his way are because the people who are supposed to help him fight politically have abandoned him,” Kimani Ngunjiri said.
Ngunjiri said Kindiki’s quiet and calm nature works against him in the noisy and confrontational world of Kenyan politics. He described him as a technocrat surrounded by political heavyweights who expect him to operate like a grassroots mobiliser.
Politics needs a fighter
The former lawmaker insisted that for a politician to be loved and supported by large crowds in Kenya, he must be a “hardcore” political operator who can fire straight from the hip.
“Politics is not like teaching law,” he said. “It needs someone who can go low, to the level of even baby talk. Someone who can connect with the illiterate person in the village. That is how you win hearts.”
Ngunjiri said the political scene in Mt Kenya is already heating up, and leaders who want to remain relevant must learn to mix with the people, not just fly in for events and disappear in choppers.
He urged Kindiki’s allies to help him build stronger ties on the ground, warning that being calm and clean alone may not be enough to survive the turbulent politics of the region.
The development comes at a time when political analysts predict that President William Ruto is likely to pick another Deputy President in the run-up to the 2027 general election over fears that the Mt Kenya region could be gone politically.
