The Nigerian army says close to 30 generals have tested positive for coronavirus after they attended a military conference.

Testing was ordered when a major-general died of Covid-19 days after he fell ill at the gathering in Abuja.

The conference has been suspended.

A spike of infections has been reported in Nigeria in recent weeks, raising fears of a second wave of the pandemic.
