Ndia MP to Gachagua: Mt Kenya will follow leaders who deliver, not self-proclaimed kingpins
By K24 Digital Reporter, September 30, 2025Ndia Member of Parliament George Kariuki has intensified his criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, insisting that Mount Kenya cannot be forced into following self-proclaimed political kingpins.
Speaking during an inspection tour of road projects in his constituency on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Kariuki said leadership is earned through vision and tangible development, not political rhetoric that divides communities.
“No one has been crowned the ‘King of the Mountain’, and certainly not through intimidation or shouting matches on radio stations,” Kariuki said. “Mt Kenya will only follow a leader with vision, not politics that divide and add no value to Kenyans.”
A close ally of President William Ruto, Kariuki dismissed Gachagua’s recent calls for the region to rally behind him, saying such assertions are outdated and unhelpful.
He argued that residents care more about jobs, opportunities, and development than political theatrics.
Defending the government’s performance, Kariuki rejected claims that President Ruto has sidelined Mt Kenya. He pointed to ongoing infrastructure and social projects, noting that in Ndia alone, major roadworks are transforming transport and boosting trade.

Among the projects highlighted were the Riamugaa–Kiandangae Road, the Kagio Town Road, and the Kiangwaci–Kivirigwi Road, which are expected to improve access for farmers and open new markets for produce.
He also announced that more than 90 per cent of Ndia households are now connected to the national grid, with plans for 100 per cent coverage.
“Electricity is not a luxury; it is a necessity for education, business, and modern living,” Kariuki said. “No household in Ndia will be left behind.”
The MP further urged Mt Kenya leaders to unite around economic growth, youth empowerment, and agricultural support, warning against divisive politics.
His remarks came shortly after Gachagua, in a radio interview, urged residents to heckle pro-Ruto leaders’ comments that have drawn sharp backlash.
“Inciting wananchi to heckle leaders is irresponsible and dangerous,” Kariuki warned. “It denies our people meaningful discussions about development. That is not the future Mt Kenya deserves.”
Kariuki concluded by affirming his loyalty to President Ruto’s administration, saying the region stands to gain more from working with the government than undermining it.
“Mt Kenya is strong when it speaks with one voice for progress, not when it is divided by empty slogans. Leadership is about results, not rhetoric,” he said.
