NCCK asks Ruto to provide evidence on MPs’ corruption claims
By William Muthama, August 24, 2025The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has called on President William Ruto to provide concrete evidence regarding his claims that some Members of Parliament are involved in corruption.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, August 24, 2025, NCCK Vice-Chair Bishop John Okinda emphasised the need for accountability among lawmakers.
“The President says there is corruption in this country; he has the NIS, he knows better than anyone else. But those who are caught in this must be brought to book so that we can set an example,” Bishop Okinda said.
The religious body argued that mere accusations without evidence do little to curb corruption. Bishop Okinda stressed that allowing investigative bodies, such as EACC, to operate independently is crucial for achieving lasting solutions. EACC opens probe into MPs over Ruto bribery claims
“Why can’t we allow them to do their work? Why can’t we allow them to take that which is given to them by the Constitution?” he asked.
Proof key for trust
NCCK’s stance comes after claims made by President Ruto during an ODM-Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting in Karen on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The president claimed that intelligence reports revealed a scheme in which someone paid Ksh150 million to a Senate committee and claimed that some members collected Ksh10 million to pass the Anti-Money Laundering law, money that never reached Parliament.
The church leaders underscored that transparency and proof are essential to restoring trust in public institutions and ensuring that those involved in bribery face consequences.
“Cannot be everybody, but those that are caught must be brought to book. This is how we ensure that we don’t just talk about corruption but go deep into it and come out with a lasting solution,” Bishop Okinda added.
