A nationwide validation exercise for the NYOTA Programme’s Business Support component has officially begun across all constituencies in Kenya.

The exercise, launched on Friday, October 24, 2025, marks a major step toward identifying the final list of 100,000 youth beneficiaries set to receive business start-up grants.

According to a statement by the State Department for Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy, the exercise aims to confirm the authenticity and eligibility of pre-selected applicants who had earlier received official invitations to participate.

“The main objective is to verify the authenticity and eligibility of applicants to generate a final, definitive list of 100,000 youth beneficiaries for the Business Support grant,” the department said in a statement posted on X.

Ruto’s vision for youth empowerment

The validation exercise is part of President William Ruto’s broader agenda to curb unemployment, raise living standards among Kenyans, and reduce crime rates by empowering the youth through entrepreneurship.

Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui on Monday, October 20, 2025, President Ruto underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency throughout the NYOTA Programme.

“The Head of State called on Members of Parliament, Members of County Assemblies, and local leaders to participate in and support the exercise to guarantee transparency and fairness,” the statement read.

“We have Ksh20 billion from the World Bank to give to our youth. We will be targeting 800,000 youths who will receive funding under different categories of the NYOTA project,” Ruto stated.

Adding that, “This coming Friday, we will be doing verification in every constituency targeting the business cohort. This will enable them to open businesses and contribute to the country’s growth.”

Ksh5 billion to support youth entrepreneurs

The Business Support component is part of the larger Ksh20 billion NYOTA Programme, a national youth empowerment initiative that seeks to expand opportunities for young Kenyans through entrepreneurship, training, and innovation.

Specifically, this business-focused segment carries a budget of Ksh5B, with each successful applicant expected to receive Ksh50,000 as a start-up grant.

The funds are intended to help beneficiaries launch and grow small businesses across sectors, including agribusiness, creative industries, and technology.

Officials said the physical validation process will play a key role in ensuring transparency and fairness in the allocation of funds.

“The data collected from today’s physical validation, combined with the performance in the Entrepreneurship Aptitude Test (EAT), will be subjected to a comprehensive analysis,” the department added.

The results from the validation exercise and the aptitude tests will be analysed to create a system-generated and verifiable list of final beneficiaries, which will be published by next week.

“All pre-selected applicants are urged to attend the validation exercise in person at their designated venues with their Original National Identity Card or NCPWD Card,” the statement read in part.

The NYOTA Programme remains one of President Ruto’s flagship youth initiatives, designed to give young people a fair chance to succeed, promote innovation, and strengthen Kenya’s economy from the grassroots.
