Natembeya presents bulls to honour Raila Odinga ahead of burial in Bondo

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has honoured the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga with a symbolic gift of bulls delivered to his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County.

Natembeya presented at least fifteen bulls and fifteen bags of maize as a contribution in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Natembeya took to his official X account on Saturday, October 18, 2025, moments after delivering his gifts to the Odinga family home, Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo.

“Today, I had the honour of making a heartfelt donation of 15 bulls and 15 bags of maize to the family of the late former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo,” Natembeya wrote.

On his part, the Trans Nzoia governor explained his gifts to the family are a token of appreciation for Raila Odinga’s monumental contribution to Kenya in pursuit of democracy.

Raila, who died on October 15 at the age of 80, has been mourned as a towering statesman whose career was defined by his fight for multiparty democracy, social justice, and constitutional reform.

“This gesture is a humble token of my deep appreciation for Raila Odinga’s monumental contribution to our nation and his lifelong pursuit of justice, democracy, and unity among all communities,” Natembeya noted.

Recounts relationship with Raila

Natembeya further recalled how Raila Odinga shaped his political career while also nurturing the bond between the Mulembe and Nyanza regions.

“As a political father, he nurtured leaders across generations and championed the bond between the Mulembe and Nyanza regions, a unity that remains the bedrock of our political and social cohesion,” he said.

In addition, the governor further reaffirmed his commitment to carrying forward Raila’s vision to fulfilment.

“As we mourn his passing, I reaffirm my commitment to carry forward his vision, working hand in hand with like-minded leaders to fulfil his dream of a united, prosperous, and just Kenya,” Natembeya said.

According to Natembeya, among the Luhya community, sending bulls carried deep symbolic meaning, and in traditional practice, livestock gifts signify honour, respect, and shared mourning.

On the other end, the Odinga family, still receiving a steady stream of mourners and dignitaries, acknowledged the gesture as a powerful expression of national unity during one of the darkest moments in Kenya’s political history.
