A 30-year-old mechanic has died after he was stoned in Dandora, Nairobi County by touts following a ‘disagreement’ over Sh50 bus fare change.

The Kirinyaga Road-based mechanic, Nelson Omondi, 30, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after the stoning incident the previous day.

The deceased, his colleague James Odhiambo Owuor, and three other mechanics left town on Tuesday at around 7 pm and boarded a matatu, registration number KCB 283J, belonging to Aldana Sacco.

On reaching Stage 41 in Dandora, the deceased demanded his change and the conductor obliged.

As they were walking towards Dandora Phase 4, police said that two conductors from the same vehicle they had boarded from town followed them armed with stones. They hit Omondi on the face using stones.

He was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital and later transferred to KNH where he succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday evening while undergoing treatment.

Following the attack, police launched investigations leading to the arrest of the main suspect.

“We managed to arrest Collins Kuria Muthoni aged 30. He was the main suspect and will be arraigned as soon as the investigations are complete,” said Buruburu OCPD Adamson Bungei.
