Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua, has renewed the push for the three Ukambani counties to form a regional bank.

Dr. Mutua, posting on his Facebook page shortly after meeting his Ukambani colleagues on Friday, said that said he’ll soon call a meeting to discuss the acceleration of development in the region.

“We need to pursue plans for a regional bank, construction of factories, roads, dams and also create other key development projects for our people,” said the two-term Machakos leader who is the current chairman of South Eastern Kenya Economic Block.

Mutua, a visionary leader who on his first time set an indelible vision for Machakos City, said the focus of the Ukambani region should be uplifting the population from poverty.

“Leadership is about the delivery of services and the three of us are committed to lifting our people to higher levels of development,” said the Maendeleo Chap Chap leader, who has thrown his hat in the ring to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House in 2022.

The three Ukambani governors, Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Prof Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) started mulling over the proposal of a regional bank in 2018.

SEKEB Secretariat has been tasked with thematic areas of common development approach in the management of water resources, food production, provision of health service, and trade.
