Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has advised Deputy President (DP) William Ruto to seek a serious political mentor if he wants to achieve his goal of becoming a president.
Speaking on Punchline show on Sunday, Ngunyi said DP Ruto needs a political mentor who can show him the ropes of navigating the complex world of politics.
“In my view, William Ruto has refused to be made president. He is making himself president. If you look at the terrain of power from where he operates, William Ruto is answerable to no one. He is only answerable to himself and maybe to God, we don’t know. Nobody advises William Ruto,” said Ngunyi.
The analyst said DP Ruto seems to have spurned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s overtures to mentor him.
“Look for a mentor. Look for Museveni, let him show you how it is done. Look for people you are responsible to. Even in the Bible, we are told Apollos was responsible to Paul and Paul had a group of people he was responsible to,” said Ngunyi.
Ngunyi, who is famous for his ‘tyranny of numbers’ theory that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto would win the 2013 General Election, predicted that the DP will one day become the President but that may not necessarily be in 2022.
On the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Ngunyi said that President Kenyatta’s handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga was to solve two problems, politics of exclusion and cyclical violence during elections.
Ngunyi warned that should the BBI rallies lead to a referendum in which DP Ruto is on the opposing end and should he lose, then allies of President Kenyatta and Raila may push for Ruto’s impeachment.
