Murang’a senator: Without Raila, Ruto could be impeached by Parliament
By Nancy Marende, October 2, 2025Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has claimed that President William Ruto’s political survival is heavily dependent on the support of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking at a local TV station on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Nyutu stated that Ruto’s government has prioritised appeasing Odinga over addressing the needs of Kenyans.
“All President Ruto and his government care about these days is to know whether Baba is happy. I think the first call Ruto makes in the morning when he wakes up is to ask whether Raila Odinga is happy, because if he is not, then he ceases to be president,” Nyutu remarked.
He went on to say that Ruto has become overly reliant on Odinga to maintain political stability and avoid challenges within Parliament.
“Ruto is ready to do with anything SHA, but everything to make sure Baba is happy for obvious reasons, that he hangs on to Baba to continue being president. And that is a fact, without Baba, Ruto can even be impeached by parliament any day, anytime,” he added.

Elsewhere, Kigumo MP Joseph Kamau also said that Raila’s support was Ruto’s only lifeline.
Raila Odinga
His remarks come a month after the former prime minister defended his decision to collaborate with Ruto in a broad-based government, reiterating that the move was essential to avert a national crisis and ensure Kenya’s stability.
Speaking at the funeral of veteran politician and women’s rights champion Phoebe Asiyo in Homa Bay County on August 8, 2025, Odinga remarked that Kenya was on the verge of political and social upheaval last year.
“We know where we have come from. We were in a very serious situation sometime last year. There was a great possibility of Kenya degenerating into a failed state,” Odinga stated, cautioning against downplaying the circumstances that necessitated the political partnership.
“People who don’t understand history talk very easily. Ask them what happened in countries like Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia – why we have military regimes there today.”
The ODM leader highlighted that the formation of a broad-based government was not intended to preserve the political fortunes of any individual but to secure Kenya’s future and long-term stability.
“We sacrificed so that there could be peace in this country, and that is why we are here today. I do not regret what we did. We did it in the best interests of our country. Kenya must move forward,” he asserted.
