Mt Kenya MPs caution against divisive politics, urge residents to support Ruto
By Bancy Lole, November 13, 2025Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament Gachoki Gitari and his Laikipia East counterpart Mwangi Kiunjuri have cautioned leaders from the Mount Kenya region against engaging in divisive and petty politics.
They have said the time has come for leaders to focus on delivering tangible results to the people instead of chest-thumping.

Speaking on Thursday, 13th, 2025, in Mugwandi, Kirinyaga County, during an empowerment programme where ten groups benefited from tents and chairs, Gitari said he will not be distracted by leaders engaging in name-calling and propaganda.
“Some of these leaders have turned politics into a shouting contest. They spend more time attacking others instead of serving the people. When the time for elections comes, everyone will be judged by what they have done, not what they say,” he stated.

Gitari emphasized that his focus remains on working with the government to ensure development projects reach Kirinyaga residents. He cited the Sh2.69 million Uwezo Fund recently disbursed to youth and women’s groups as part of his empowerment agenda.
“I want to see our people empowered. The Uwezo Fund is interest-free, and I encourage our youth and women to form groups and apply. This is how we uplift our community,” the MP said.

On his part, Kiunjuri called out leaders claiming to be the new political kingpins of the Mt Kenya region, challenging them to show what they have done for the people before seeking to lead them.
“I have stood firm for the Mt Kenya region since I first entered Parliament. Those now claiming to be the region’s political heads should tell us what they have done for our people in the past,” Kiunjuri said.
He further urged the residents to remain patient and continue supporting President William Ruto’s government, defending him for being in office for only three years now, yet he has implemented key development projects.
“We cannot compare this government to those that ruled for ten years. Let’s give President Ruto time to deliver. Those saying there’s nothing happening are simply playing petty politics,” he added.
The two MPs also warned leaders against engaging in early 2027 campaigns, saying premature politics could derail the government’s development agenda.
They reiterated that they would stand by the government to ensure the promises made to Kirinyaga residents are fulfilled.
“Our goal is not about political noise. It’s about results. When the time for politics comes, we shall go back to the people and let our work speak for itself,” they said.
