In a bold and passionate display of discontent, the youths of Msambweni have taken to the streets and stormed their Member of Parliament’s (MP) office after he voted in favour of the Finance Bill 2024.

Their MP, Feisal Badir Abdalla voted yes contrary to the wishes of the irate youths. Fueled by frustration and a sense of betrayal, they gathered outside the CDF offices to voice their anger and disappointment.

A video capturing the intense moment was shared on X on June 21, 2024, showcased the raw emotions of the protesting youths as they vehemently expressed their opposition to their MP, Feisal Abdalla.

The decision of the MP to vote “yes” on the Finance Bill 2024, stirred a wave of dissatisfaction among the youth population who have been actively participating in protests against the contentious bill.

Feisal was among a total of 204 MPs who voted yes, against 115 who rejected it. The bill now proceeds to the Committee of the whole House for consideration of proposed amendments.

The actions of the Msambweni youths reflect a growing state of disillusionment and defiance towards the current political establishment, particularly in light of decisions that directly impact their livelihoods and future.

The events unfolding serve as a reminder of the power of the ongoing grassroots movements and the unwavering determination of the youth to hold their representatives accountable.

Similarly, the National Police Service issued a statement saying it would not allow demonstrators to occupy critical government infrastructure, including Parliament Buildings, or disrupt Parliamentary proceedings.

In a statement signed by Inspector-General Japhet Koome, NPS stated that it respects Article 37 of the Constitution, which states that citizens can demonstrate, picket, and assemble, but attacks on government infrastructure will be prohibited.

“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order; and protecting life and property,” Koome said.
