MP Murunga had bought me land in Karen where he was building our house: Agnes Wangui Wambiri

Agnes Wangui Wambiri, the alleged lover of late Matungu MP Justus Murunga, now claims the lawmaker had bought her land in the posh Karen neighbourhood, and was in the process of building her a house.

Wangui claims the house was to provide shelter for her and her two children, whom she alleges were sired by Murunga.

“The deceased had also expressed the wish of settling down with me at our would-be home,” Wangui said in her court papers filed Monday.

According to the plaintiff, Murunga had pledged to marry her according to Kikuyu customs, and would thereafter “make it known to [his other] family members”.

Wangui made the allegations in her replying affidavit to Christabel Murunga, one of the late parliamentarian’s two widows, who requested the court to allow Murunga’s family bury him on November 28 as earlier planned. Christabel threatened to slap Wangui with a Ksh10 million morgue bill if she (Wangui) “would continue stopping the late MP’s burial from taking place”.

Wangui had obtained a court order stopping the burial of the legislator until her paternity row filed in court on November 18 is heard and determined.

Wangui alleges she met Murunga in 2012 in Embakasi, Nairobi where he approached and kick-started a relationship with her shortly thereafter. The relationship, she says, yielded two children, a son and a daughter, who are now at the centre of the paternity dispute.

Wangui says she wants Murunga’s DNA samples extracted for analysis “as soon as possible” so that the funeral process can be expedited.

“Once the DNA results are out, I won’t have any objection to his burial,” she said.

Wangui alleges that her attempts to reach Murunga’s two wives, Christabel and Grace, for out-of-court settlement of the matter, bore no fruit.

On November 18, Milimani Principal Magistrate Agnes Ndunge Makau set Thursday, November 26 as the hearing date for the paternity suit.

“The applicant [is hereby directed] to serve upon the respondents (Murunga’s first and second wives) for inter parte hearing before Hon. Muholi SRM on November 26, 2020,” instructed Magistrate Ndunge.

MP Murunga died of diabetes on November 14, 2020 in Mumias, Kakamega County. His body was transported to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi on November 15 for preservation.
