Homa Bay Town Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) George Peter Kaluma has expressed his concerns on the situation political leaders in Kenya are currently going through.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker through his official X account on Sunday, July 14, 2024, said elected leaders are currently having a difficult time.
Kaluma on Gen Z pressure
According to Kaluma, leaders who have been elected are not being given a chance to lead.
Instead, the lawmaker says they are being told to follow the Gen Zs, who have been said to be leaderless as they lead a new wave of revolution in the country.
“It is difficult for leaders in Kenya today! You’re elected to lead but you are told to follow Gen Z who are leaderless! Eish jamani!” Kaluma stated.

Kenya’s young people are leading a revolution in the country, which was started with the revolt against the unpopular Finance Bill, 2024.
Under the umbrella of Gen Zs, the youth have been leading anti-government protests demanding for an overhaul in the President William Ruto’s adminstration.
Leaders succumbing to Gen Z demands
The Gen Z s protests have seen various leaders succumb to the pressure to follow their demands.
Several Members of Parliament who voted for the controversial Finance Bill have been going through tough time, as the Gen Zs demanded for an explanation from them on why they supported the Bill that was termed as oppressive.
Kaluma, however, has had it easy with the Gen Zs and his constituents, who have been even gifting him for voting against the Bill.
While leading the protests dubbed as Occupy Churches, the Gen Zs stormed various worship places on Sundays to make sure that politicians who supported the Bill are not given a chance to speak.
Ruto following Gen Z
President Ruto is among the elected leaders who have succumbed to the Gen Zs pressure by following their demands.
The Head of State started by dropping some of the tax proposals in the Finance Bill, 2024, as it headed to parliament for consideration, before declining to sign it into law after the lawmakers passed it, and subsequently withdrew it.
However, the Gen Zs persisted with their protests, calling for a complete overhaul in the government.
This saw President Ruto sack his entire Cabinet as per the Gen Zs demands, before he later announced the resignation of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome after he was faulted over the police brutality during the Gen Z-led protests.
