Mosiria urges coffin shop workers to move their business away from hospital entrances
By Ascah Mwango, December 2, 2025Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has urged coffin shop owners to move their businesses away from hospital entrances, emphasising the emotional impact such locations can have on patients.
In a statement shared via his X account on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, he noted the need to balance the dignity of the business with the emotional well-being of patients.
Mosiria said it is important to respect the business while also thinking about the feelings of patients. He wants coffin shops to find locations that do not cause fear or distress for people visiting hospitals.
“My humble request, however, is this: let us keep coffin shops away from the main entrances of hospitals or directly opposite them. Patients who are in critical condition may see them and immediately panic or lose hope of recovering. Let us balance the dignity of this important business with the emotional well-being of the sick,” Mosiria stated.

Mosiria also reflected on a personal experience that changed his perspective on the coffin business.
“Today, I overcame a fear I’ve carried for years, approaching people in the coffin business. With the support of my sister Wilbroda, I finally gathered the courage, and what I witnessed truly touched my heart,” he wrote.

Mosiria praised coffin shop owners for the dignity and compassion with which they carry out their work.
“These men and women are doing God’s work with dignity, love, and deep respect for the departed. Many people judge them unfairly, yet to me they are God-sent. They walk with families during their most painful moments, and for that, they deserve our appreciation,” he added.
He also shared a personal message of gratitude to one of the coffin shop workers he met.
“To the lady I met today who serves with compassion, may you never lack. May God bless the work of your hands, even as we pray that all of us remain healthy and live out the full days God has planned for us,” he concluded.
