Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has quit his role as the vice-chairperson of the Transport, Infrastructure, Public Works and Housing Committee.

In a three-page letter shared with his over 500,000 followers on Facebook, the MP said that he leaves with his head high citing numerous accomplishments and reforms achieved during his tenure.

Kuria is the latest casualty of the slow purge of allies of Deputy President William Ruto from party leadership roles in both the Senate and National Assembly.

The MP had been notified of the intention to remove him from the committee by the new Jubilee Majority Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe.

Following his appointment as Jubilee Chief Whip, Wangwe hit the ground running targeting for removal at least 20 MPs from House committees over alleged disloyalty to the party and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development agenda.

Kuria, in his response, told the Navakholo MP that his stance that Mt Kenya region has been neglected in infrastructure development has caused him suffering in some quarters.

“I leave this committee with a smile when I look at the current ongoing initiatives including the Mau Mau Road, Njabini-Gatura Road, Dualling of Thika Road to Marwa and hopefully to Isiolo, dualling of Kiambu Road and the rehabilitation of the metre gauge railway to Nanyuki,” said Kuria.

The MP also cited other reforms the committee under his leadership as vice-chairperson has championed including the promotion of the Lamu, South Sudan and Ethiopia Transit Corridor, commonly referred to as Lapsset.
