Monday blackout to affect parts of 5 counties
By Ascah Mwango, September 15, 2025Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage that will affect parts of five counties on Monday, September 15, 2025.
In a notice released on Sunday, September 14, the utility company said the blackout will allow engineers to carry out routine maintenance on the electricity network.
“Hello. Please be advised that the following areas will be on planned maintenance on 15.09.2025,” Kenya Power announced.

The interruptions will begin in the morning and continue until late in the evening in different regions.
In Kericho County, areas around Jamji, Changoi and Kipkeryen will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Customers in Jamji Factory, Jamji Powerhouse, Changoi Tea Factory, Kipkeryen and nearby places will be affected.

In West Pokot County, power will go off in Chewoyet and Kesogon between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. The blackout will also stretch to Ortum, Sebit and Sigor during the same hours, affecting learning institutions, markets, trading centres and homes in the surrounding areas.
In Murang’a County, power will be switched off in Ikumbi and Kigumo from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power said the outage will affect local markets, schools, tea factories, farms and nearby villages.
In Nyeri County, areas around Gichira and Kiawaithanji will experience a longer blackout starting from 8.00 am until 5.00 pm. The outage will affect homes, farms and business centres in and around the two locations.
In Kiambu County, Kihumo and Magana will also be hit by the planned outage. Power will go off from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting residential areas, factories, farms and police facilities.
