Kenya’s second and the longest-serving president Daniel arap Moi has died at the age of 95.
Members of the public political leaders from around the world have been paying tribute since Moi’s death was announced in a presidential proclamation on Tuesday, February 4.
Among those who have paid tributes are East African presidents Yoweri Museveni (Uganda) and John Pombe Magufuli (Tanzania).
Museveni said that Moi was one of the leaders he looked up to when he was in university.
“When he was vice-president I was a student at University of Dar es Salaam and we used to follow what the leaders of East Africa were doing,” said Museveni.
Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has eulogized Moi for his efforts to revive the regional bloc, the East African Community.
In a tweet in Swahili, Magufuli also said Tanzanians will remember Moi for his efforts to promote diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott condoled Moi’s family and friends and the people of Kenya.
