Michael Mbithuka Nzomo has made history as the first person with albinism to be appointed to a constitutional commission.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura in a statement on Friday, December 6, 2024, while congratulating President William Ruto’s latest appointees stated that Nzomo is the first person with albinism to be appointed as a commissioner to a constitutional body.
“Congratulations to the Chairperson and Members of the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Board, and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC),”
“Michael Mbithuka Nzomo makes history as the first person with albinism to be appointed as a commissioner of a constitutional commission,” Isaac Mwaura said.
Nzomo was appointed as a member of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) after approval by the Members of Parliament.
Ruto’s appointees
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, Ruto appointed 11 people for the position of chairperson and members at the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Board, the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC).
In a gazette notice, the 11 include former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Issack Hassan who has been appointed as the chairperson for IPOA.
In addition, the Head of State has appointed a team of seven to the IPOA’s board, the members include, Dr Annette Mudola Mbogoh, Ken Williams Nyakomitah, Ann Waniku Mwangi, Boniface Kipkemoi Samati, Jackline Lukalo Mwenesi, John Muchiri Nyaga and Dr Micah Onyirgo Nyakego.
He also appointed Rehema Dida Jaldesa to be the chairperson of NGEC.
Charles Orinda Dulo is now the chairperson of CAJ while Charles Njagua Kanyi and Dorothy Jemator Kimengech as members of the commission.

Mwaura on PWD
On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Mwaura lauded the inclusion of people with disabilities (PWD) in the national government.
In a statement via his X account, Mwaura, while celebrating the International Day for people with disabilities, stated that the National Council for PWD has had exponential growth since it started.
In addition, he disclosed that specific funds allocated to persons with albinism and autism demonstrate the need for tailor-made interventions.
“Happy International Day for Persons With Disabilities. The paramilitary training at the National Youth Service has led to the inclusion,” he stated.
