Mediamax Network Limited’s Chief Executive Officer Ken Ngaruiya on Monday, February 21, 2022, presented a Ksh27.5 million cheque to the Muthaiga Golf Club ahead of next month’s Magical Kenya Open to be held at the historic golf course.
“The tournament will be beamed live throughout on K24 plus and segments on K24 TV,” Ken Ngaruiya said while presenting the cheque which was received by KOGL Director Zuhura Ogada.
“Our goal is to facilitate growth in the sports industry. We are now keen on giving exposure to golf lovers through our various platforms,” he added.
The 53rd edition of Kenya’s most lucrative sport tournament makes a comeback at the Muthaiga Golf Club with the tee-off set for March 3, 2022. The tournament is expected to run till March 6.
In order to maintain its rich tradition, Mediamax Network Limited has offered to give the tournament a big shot in the arm with the financial boost.
The Magical Kenya Open has over the years attracted a large number of entries with 156 golfers expected to compete in this year’s edition.
The tournament was first held in 1967 and has steadily grown through the years.
Earlier this month, Sports, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed toured the Muthaiga golf course and hailed the preparations ahead of the tee-off.
“I’m extremely proud that as a country, we are able to hold a sporting event that meets international standards, like the Magical Kenya Open,” CS Amina said.
“Our pristine and world-class golf courses have ensured that we have hosted golf giants since 1967, who have displayed their skills on the Kenyan soil,” she added.
The prize money for this year’s edition is $2 million (Ksh227,400,000).
The four-day festival will be beamed live on K24 TV and distributed all over the world.
