MCAs’ appetite for foreign benchmarking trips has now come to haunt them after it emerged that nine ward reps from both Nairobi and Murang’a counties have been forced to self-quarantine.
Details emerged on Tuesday that the nine had failed to quarantine themselves despite having travelled oversees.
In Nairobi, MCAs led by Riruta’s James Kariuki Kiriba, who travelled from Germany, are currently undergoing mandatory government quarantine.
Mlango Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu and Nominated MCA Hafsa Khalif ward agreed to self-quarantine.
In Murang’a, six MCAs who had travelled outside the country have been asked to submit their travel documents and undergo another test for corona virus.
The MCAs had travelled to the United Arab Emirates and have reportedly been in self-quarantine for the past 14 days.
At the same time, seven people from different villages in Gatundu South, Kiambu county, have been forced to quarantine themselves after jetting into the country from overseas.
The seven from Thiririka, Gatuikira, Kiamwangi, Githuya and Kiganjo villages arrived on different dates from Sweden, Germany, Dubai and Greece, respectively.
A taxi driver who ferried some of them has also been isolated.
Further, a Ruiru man who recently visited Rwanda was on Tuesday put in isolation at Mbagathi hospital with symptoms of Covid-19.
His father, who had interacted with him after he arrived in the country has also gone into self-quarantine.
In Kisumu, three people have been put on forced quarantine at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital after they failed to observe self-quarantine regulations.
The three, who jetted into the country from Dubai on March 16, 17 and 20 respectively, travelled by public means from Nairobi to Migori and Kisii respectively to renew their passports.
Kisumu County Commissioner Susan Waweru on Monday directed that the trio be put on forced quarantine for 14 days.
And in Mombasa, hair salons and barber shops were still open yesterday despite the county emergency response committee on Covid-19 ordering their closure to prevent the spread of corona.
