NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua has condemned the police following the night raid at Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi.

Karua, who visited Jimi’s residence after the night raid on Friday, August 9, 2024, stated that the police violated the constitution by carrying out a search without a warrant.

She added that Wanjigi is not a fugitive and that he could have presented himself before the police if he had been summoned legally.

“The Ruto regime can deploy close to 200 or more police officers at Jimi Wanjigi’s residences, and they are not able to say what offence they are investigating; they cannot come in and break without a court warrant.

“Jimi is not a fugitive if they summon him in the manner the lawyer is saying, and under the law he would defiantly present himself at the police station, but coming to vandalise his house like goons interfering with internet connection, interfering with electricity, which we fear they were making sure the CCTV does not record what they were doing,” Karua said.

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who was also present, has termed the raid a witchhunt, adding that no one should be victimised regardless of their political stand.

Wamalwa added that the late-night raid has left Jimi’s family traumatised.

“Visited our friend @JimiWanjigis home in Nairobi this morning with my sister @MarthaKarua and met his dear wife, mother, and children who were seriously traumatized by the ongoing police raid that has been conducted overnight without any warrants.

“No doubt the raid is a politically instigated witchhunt that’s meant to harass, intimidate, and silence not just Hon. Wanjigi but the Kenyan opposition. We must never allow our country Kenya to become a military or police state where citizens live in fear, with the military deployed against them indefinitely and a rogue, hooded police force on the loose,” he wrote.
