As his fellow candidates cast their ballots for themselves in the Kibra by-election, Jubilee Party’s McDonald Mariga could only watch from a distance.

The former international footballer said he did not register to vote in Kibra by-election because he spent most of his time in the diaspora.

But if elected, Mariga said he would agitate for law change so that those in the diaspora can also be registered to vote.

“Given opportunity to serve in this Parliament, I will fight for diaspora people to be registered like the rest so that they can exercise their rights,” said Mariga.

“I have no doubt about security. Let everybody come out to vote because it’s their right. We want peace and no violence whatsoever.”

There are 23 other candidates in the ongoing Kibra by-election, namely: Imran Okoth (ODM), Eliud Owalo (ANC), Khamisi Butichi (Ford Kenya), Felix Anditi (Independent), Ibrahim Kimorko (Roots Party), Kassim Abdul (The New Democrats), Editor Ochieng (Ukweli Party), Fridah Kerubo (Independent), Matthew Musyoka (Independent), Jared Nyakundi (National Liberal Party), Elijah Nyamwamu (Narc Kenya), Emmanuel Owiti (Green Congress), David Odanga (Independent), Isaac Ogongo (Justice and Freedom Party), Francisco Ojiambo (Party of Democratic Unity), Shedrack Omondi (Independent), Shem Ocharo (Muungano), Abraham Okoth (Independent), Hamida Musa (United Green Movement) and Noah Migudo (Independent).
