Manhunt on for 3 detainees who escaped from police station in Busia

Police officers in Bunyala, Busia county have launched a manhunt for three details who broke a padlock and escaped lawful custody at Port Victoria Police Station.

A police report seen by Mediamax Digital revealed that the three prisoners escaped from the station on Sunday and the officers only learnt about it in the evening.

The trio has been identified as Dan Ogutu (failure to wear facemask), Brian Otieno (assault) and Samson Oundo Oluko (suspected arsonist).

“An alarm was immediately raised and it was established that the prisoners escaped through the door by breaking the padlock. A search party dispatched to pursue the prisoners commenced immediately,” read said in their report.

The officers who were on duty when the suspects escaped were identified as Lawrence Wanjau and Benard Muriuki.

Cases of suspects escaping from police custody have been on the increase in the recent past.

Two weeks ago, a suspect poured faeces on a police officer and escaped from custody.
