Police in Kisii County have launched investigations into an incident where a man stabbed a woman believed to be his girlfriend in Ogembo town, Gucha Sub County, Kisii County and committed suicide on Wednesday.

County Police Commander, Francis Kooli stated Richard Gitebe locked Josephine Mogendi inside a house, stabbed her with a sword, left her for dead, swallowed a pesticide and died.

The Officer said neighbours heard her cry and rushed her to Gucha level four hospital and later to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital ( KTRH)  where she is recuperating, adding police recovered a container for the pesticide as an exhibit.

“It was wrong for the deceased to stab the girl.  Gitebe’s body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital pending postmortem,” Kooli told People Daily Digital at his office.

He appealed to residents to resolve their conflicts amicably instead of resorting to violence and killing, stressing that it is illegal to take a person’s life.

Meanwhile, the Commander said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) is still waiting for a report from experts on a couple who were burnt to death at Bomesichi village, Sameta sub-county in Kisii county on July 29.

Charles Mogoa, a retired teacher and wife, Florence Moruri, former Gekongo primary school Head Teacher died in their house after a fire, believed to have been caused by arsonists gutted it.

Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor’s autopsy report shows the couple was alive before the fire broke out, had severe burns and there were burns, soot in the oesophagus, airwaves and tissues.

The Pathologist samples were sent to the government chemist in Kisumu County for toxicological analysis to know whether they had chemicals in their bodies which made them not realize there was the fire.

Robinson Nyabuto, the couple’s son said his father had a blood clot on his back, a fracture caused by a blunt object, stressing, they want to know the cause and who hit him.

He said the parents are expected to be buried on Friday at Nyaramba/ Nyabigena village in the South Mugirango constituency and appealed to the government to ensure the family gets justice.

“We are burying our parents and hope that those who were culpable will be arrested and prosecuted for the family to get justice and be settled,” Nyabuto told the People Daily on phone yesterday.
