Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli says that his own child has recovered from coronavirus after self-medicating while on self-imposed quarantine.

Defending his decision not to order lockdown in Tanzania, President Magufuli said that the child, whose age and gender he did not reveal, self-quarantined and is now okay.

“He took malimau na tangawizi. Amepona na sasa anapiga push-ups [He took lemon and ginger and has recovered. He is now doing push up],” said Magufuli on Sunday.

The Tanzanian president said that he is considering reopening universities later this week if Covid-19 numbers continue stabilizing.

Magufuli revealed that majority of Covid-19 patients admitted in hospitals have recovered and subsequently discharged.

He told Tanzanian nationals that the virus is not as dangerous as claimed abroad.
