The leadership crisis that gripped the University of Nairobi (UoN) following the appointment of Prof Stephen Kiama as the vice-chancellor has been resolved.

This is after Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), Prof George Magoha, withdrew his case against Prof Kiama’s appointment by the Public Service Commission.

The court allowed the parties in the case to reach an out-of-court settlement and record a consent statement.

Justice Maureen Onyango of the Employment and Labour Court marked the case as settled on Thursday, February 27, 2020.

Last month, the court allowed CS Magoha and Prof Kiama to negotiate and resolve the leadership crisis out of court.

Prof Magoha had sought 30 days for further consultations to settle the leadership row.

PSC, who were an interested party in the case, agreed to allow the warring parties to negotiate.

Prof Magoha sparked the UoN leadership crisis when he revoked the appointment of Prof Kiama and dissolved the University Council.

The Education boss, himself a former UoN vice-chancellor, sought to install Prof Isaac Mbeche as the acting university chief.
