Nyahururu town has for the fourth day running experienced a shortage of diesel with only one station selling the commodity.
Long queues were on Tuesday, September 15, witnessed, snaking into Shell Petrol Station that was the only dealer with the fuel as many motorists kept off the road for lack of the commodity.
According to the petrol station supervisor James Maina, the shortage started on Friday at around 11:00 am with more and more stations referring their clients to shell.
“All the eight fuel stations in Nyahururu don’t have the fuel. We suspected hording at first but the situation has deteriorated even after the announcement of new prices by Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA),” added Maina.
Due to the shortage those fortunate to get the fuel that traded at Sh94.60 were not only buying enough for usage at the moment but also buying for storage in jars, as the traders foresaw a long-term shortage.
Motorists complained of re-scheduling daily plans from Friday, saying the long queues were a discouragement and the situation was not clear when it will come to an end.
“The situation has been advantageous to us who work in the garage near the Shell station as motorists took time to sample our services as they wait for their turn to fuel,” a local garage worker, John Wamai said.
