The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the party with a strong base in the region, held its primaries today, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, to decide who will fly its flag in the by-election.
Five hopefuls lined up, each presenting unique strengths, backgrounds and visions for Kasipul’s future.

Here are the five aspirants who sought the ODM ticket:
1. Boyd Were Ong’ondo
The son of the late MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, Boyd, is 27 years old and has worked at the Kenya Revenue Authority.
He studied finance at the Cooperative University of Kenya and is pursuing a master’s degree in commerce.

Boyd says he wants to continue his father’s development agenda and has the backing of many youth within the party.
2. Newton Onyango Ogada
Ogada is well known for his philanthropy. He has helped build schools, hospitals and homes for widows, and has supported girl child education in the constituency.

He is the founder of the God Will Provide Organisation and holds a degree in Community Development from Mount Kenya University. He is seen by some as the late MP’s preferred successor.

Despite early struggles in education, he built a career in broadcasting and remains popular with a section of the electorate that values his resilience and strong grassroots appeal.

4. Adel Ottoman
Ottoman entered the race with professional credentials that have earned him respect in academic and policy circles.
Though less publicly known compared to others, his supporters argue that his expertise and calm leadership style could provide the constituency with fresh, competent representation.
5. Daniel Okindo Majiwa
Majiwa draws his support from the large Konyango clan in Kasipul and has been active in raising issues around education and health.
His ability to rally strong clan backing, coupled with his development promises, positions him as a serious contender within ODM.
As the dust settles from today’s primaries, ODM supporters and Kasipul residents will be eager to see who ultimately carries the orange flag into the November by-election.
For voters, the decision will not only shape who represents them in Parliament but also honour the legacy of the late Charles Ong’ondo Were, whose service and tragic death remain fresh in the minds of many.
