Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Monday released the 2019 Census report, showing that Kenya has a population of 47.6 million people.
Nairobi County dwarfs all other counties in population size, with 4,397,073 people with the second most populous county, Kiambu, with two million people less that the capital city.
Here is the list of the 10 most populous counties according to the new Census report:
- Nairobi: 4,397,073
- Kiambu: 2,417,735
- Nakuru: 2,162,202
- Kakamega: 1,867,579
- Bungoma: 1,670,570
- Meru: 1,545,714
- Kilifi: 1,453,787
- Machakos: 1,421,932
- Kisii: 1,266,860
- Kisii: 1,208,333
KNBS Director-General Zachary Mwangi said the bureau will undertake further analysis to produce four more basic reports covering population distribution by administrative units up to sub location.
Speaking during the release of the results at State House, President Kenyatta commended KNBS for conducting a successful census.
