Lesuuda: Gloria Orobwa may have defied her party, but let’s not be hypocritical

By , August 28, 2025

Samburu West Member of Parliament Naisula Lesuuda has defended former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba after a chaotic ejection from Parliament.

Taking to her official X account on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, just hours after Orwoba was blocked from accessing Parliament and had her car impounded weeks after her expulsion as a nominated senator by UDA, Lesuuda accused political actors of selective application of rules.

Lesuuda stated that many nominated senators in the last Parliament openly defied the parties that had sponsored them, often opposing former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his policies, yet they were allowed to serve their full terms without harassment.

“Gloria Orobwa may have defied her party but let’s not be hypocritical; many nominated senators in the last parliament openly went against the parties that nominated them opposing then President Uhuru and his policies yet served full terms,” Lesuuda said.

In addition, the legislator further condemned laws governing political discipline, stating that they must be applied impartially and not twisted to suit the interests of the government of the day.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right. What’s good for the goose must always be good for the gander; regardless of which side one is on. Tuwache selective amnesia! If it’s about the law, then read it and follow it regardless,” Lesuuda wrote.

Gloria Owroba dramatic arrest

Lessuda’s remarks come after the former nominated senator’s vehicle was towed away after she used it to block the Senate gate.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, shortly after she was denied access to the Senate, despite citing a court order that she claimed temporarily reinstated her to her position.

At the time, in a video seen by K24 Digital, Orwoba was seen attempting to prevent the tow truck from taking her vehicle, struggling to dismantle the chains securing it, but her efforts proved futile.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale attempted to intervene and calm the situation, although his efforts were unsuccessful.

Orwoba continued to push back against the enforcement team as they towed away her white Land Cruiser Prado, but the standoff ended unsuccessfully.

The confrontation ended with three female police officers manhandling her and escorting her away from the scene.
