Landlords and Tenants Association of Kenya (LATAK) has urged landlords to offer a rent waiver for the months of April, May and June following the economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
LATAK also urged the government to assist landlords servicing loans to get a six-month moratorium from commercial banks.
“Mr. President, on a credible mediation process, start with writing off rent for three months with no threats, notices, locking houses, disconnection of water/electricity and eviction by auctioneers,” said LATAK.
Further, LATAK also wants a rent compensation package introduced into the Covid-19 response plan.
The association’s Wednesday, April 1, media briefing was also attended by the Matatu and Boda Boda Operators Federation of Kenya.
The matatu and boda boda federation urged the state to consider reducing levies on fuel by at least 50 percent.
The matatu representatives also asked for the suspension of parking fees in the counties and the reduction of insurance premiums.
For matatu owners servicing loans, LATAX wants commercial banks advised to offer a six to 12-month moratorium.
The body also spoke on behalf of hawkers whom they want to be provided with basic needs, such as food and water.
