In a significant development in the Mukuru kwa Njenga murders case, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the prime suspect, was arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts today.
The court granted investigators a 30-day custodial order to allow for the completion of their inquiries.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Khalusha’s arrest has led to crucial breakthroughs in the ongoing investigation.
Among the victims is Roselyn Akoth Ogongo, whose body was identified yesterday at the Nairobi Funeral Home by her family. They also witnessed the autopsy process and identified Roselyn’s handbag, recovered from Khalusha’s residence.
According to her sister, Roselyn was last seen leaving her home with the handbag.
In a related development, the family of Imelda Judith Karenya, believed to be Khalusha’s first victim, identified her identity card among the nine IDs found at the suspect’s house.
Investigators are also holding two persons of interest: Amos Momanyi Mogusu and Moses Ogembo.
Mogusu was found in possession of Roselyn Akoth’s mobile phone, which he claimed to have purchased from Ogembo.
Following Mogusu’s arrest at City Cabanas, he led detectives to Ogembo’s home in Mukuru kwa Reuben, where 154 used mobile phones were discovered.
Ogembo admitted to having bought used phones from Khalusha in the past.
The DCI has expressed its condolences to the families affected by these crimes and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering justice.
“We extend our gratitude to the families and friends of the deceased, and the public for continuously sharing valuable information with our investigative team, enabling significant progress in this inquiry,” John Marete, Director of Liaison and Corporate Communications at the DCI, said.
The arrests have brought some relief to the community, which has been gripped by fear following a spate of abductions and murders.
The DCI’s swift action and the court’s decision to grant extended custody underscore the seriousness with which the authorities are treating these crimes.
As the investigation continues, the DCI has called for public cooperation to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
Speaking to the press on Monday, July 15, 2024, DCI Director Amin Mohamed said 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha was behind the macabre murders.
The DCI boss stated that Khalisi confessed to having killed 42 women from 2022 to 2024 and dumped their bodies at the quarry in Kware, Mukuru kwa Njenga slums.
