Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has offered to provide a sound system for the Tuesday, June 25, 2024 anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah in a statement on Tuesday, June 24, 2024, said the sound system will be provided due to the support the Gen Z protesters showed when Dr. Austin Omondi alias JaPrado was abducted.

DJs to play music

Atellah urged the Deejays supporting the anti-Finance Bill protests to show up and play music for the protesters.

“For the support you showed us yesterday when one of our own Dr. Austin Omondi was abducted, KMPDU will provide a sound system for the Maandamano Tuesday.”

Dr. Atellah further noted that the Tuesday demonstrations will provide a space for the young people to discuss issues affecting them.

“We shall have a day long physical ‘space’ to discuss our issues as young people!I hope the Deejays who are supporting this noble course will turn up to help us #RejectFinanceBill2024 .ALL OUR MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO JOIN OTHER KENYANS IN PUSHING BACK IMPUNITY!” Atellah said.

Dr Omondi’s abduction

Dr Omondi was abducted over the weekend while planning a blood donation drive for the protesters who may get injured during the Tuesday demonstrations.

This is after a protester, Rex Masai, died in last week’s protests after he lost too much blood when he sustained a gunshot wound.

JaPrado was on Sunday, June 23, 2024, released by his abductors after a long day of his search.

Atellah confirmed his colleague’s release through his official X account.

“Our colleague Dr Austin Omondi has been released. We condemn in the strongest terms possible the impunity, the threats, intimidations and the act of fear-mongering cannot work,” he said.

Japrado also took to X to confirm his release.

“I have been released,” he tweeted.

Kindiki’s protests guidelines

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has issued guidelines that must be followed by protesters to ensure safety and order during demonstrations.

Addressing a press conference at his Harambee House office on Monday, June 24, 2024, ahead of the planned Tuesday demonstrations, Kindiki warned the protesters to strictly adhere to the guidelines.

“According to Article 24 (1d) of the Constitution, this right as all other rights is limited by among other things; the need to ensure that the enjoyment of this right does not prejudice the rights and freedoms of others. It follows therefore, that those exercising the Article 37 right to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket and present petitions to public authorities peaceably and unarmed,” Kindiki said.
