Kisii County Education Board chairman, Prof. Henry Onderi has raised concern over the increasing number of children who drop out of schools to attend political rallies.

Consequently, the Education officer has urged teachers to take action against the children to deter others.

” I also appeal to parents and guardians to make follow-ups and ensure that the children are always in schools” Onderi told the K24 Digital on phone.

He challenged politicians not to allow children to attend their meetings and ensure they are ejected from the meetings and return to schools.

The officer said it was wrong for the children to claim to be supporters of politicians to give them a leeway to attend their meetings, saying it would derail their education.

“Children are preparing for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination. How will they prepare if they are attending political rallies?” Onderi posed.

He said parents and teachers expect good examination results and called on the children to play their roles to attain the best results.

“We know it is a season of political campaigns. I urge the children to focus on their education and keep off political rallies” Onderi noted.

The Education Board chairman implored on politicians to shun holding political rallies near schools, saying it disrupts learning.
