Deputy President Kithure Kindiki‘s name is missing from the newly announced United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership structure after the ruling party officially merged with Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Speaking during the official ceremony at the State House, UDA National Chairperson Cecily Mbarire said the new party would see changes in its logo and symbols.

“The UDA party and the Amani National Congress have today merged as one known as the UDA party; that is also going to change the name and the branding,” Mbarire said.
“The party has incorporated ANC identity symbols in the logo, imagery, and topography and shall resultantly undertake a myriad of other changes in the governance and operations of the party.”
Party structure
Kindiki’s name was conspicuously missing in an update provided by UDA that outlined the party’s new structure amid the merger.
“UDA Party has incorporated former members of Amani National Congress Party in its leadership structure following the merger of the two parties.
“UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) named Issa Timamy, former ANC Party Leader, as its Deputy Party Leader, while Hon. Omboko Milemba will now deputise Sen. Hassan Omar as Secretary General. Milemba, who is Emuhaya MP, was ANC’s Secretary General.
“Mr. Kevin Lunani will now be UDA’s Vice Chairperson. UDA Party Chairperson H.E Cecily Mbarire also announced three former ANC officials to serve as new UDA Directors. Governor Mbarire further said that UDA had also incorporated ANC’s identity symbols in the new logo, imagery, typography, and brand of the merged party,” UDA announced on X on January 17, 2025.

Kindiki made deputy PL
On November 11, 2024, the UDA party made Kindiki its Deputy party leader following the impeachment of former Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
The resolution came after UDA Secretary-General Omar Hassan indicated that the party provides that the deputy president becomes the deputy party leader.

The UDA NEC noted that following Gachagua’s impeachment, the party’s constitution requires that he relinquish his role as the party’s deputy leader.
“That by virtue of the resolution of the National Assembly and the vote of the Senate and by operation of Articles 75 (3) and145 (7) of the Constitution of Kenya as read together with Article 8.2.19 of the UDA Party Constitution, Rigathi Gachagua is unable to perform the duties of the office of Deputy Party Leader and subsequently ceases to hold office as Deputy Party leader,” the NEC resolution read in part.
In his acceptance speech, Kindiki had assured the party of his commitment to the ideals envisioned in its constitution and promised to work hard to ramp up its membership.
“I want to assure you of my unwavering commitment to the ideals that our party stands for. I will work with all the organs established under our party constitution for the good and better performance of our party,” Kindiki said.
