A 27-year-old man has committed suicide in Sabaki ward, Magarini Constituency following an argument with his lover.

Innocent Hiribai is said to have had an argument with his lover the previous week before he took matters into his own hands.

Last Saturday, the deceased sent messages to his brother-in-law threatening to end his life and in turn, they talked with his wife to establish the cause of the problem between her and the husband.

Speaking to the press over the phone, Sabaki Assistant Chief Racheal Malingi said that after receiving the messages, relatives visited their kin but found the house locked from inside, an indication that there was someone inside.

Malingi said the relatives went to see the village elder and explained what was happening upon which the village elder called the assistant chief.

“The village elder contacted me early Sunday morning and I instructed them to confirm if the house was still locked. When they reached the house, they peeped through the window and found the deceased person hanging from the roof with a rope around his neck,” she said.

Ms Malingi said investigations had been launched and that the police had already recorded a statement from the deceased person’s wife.

The assistant chief urged couples who have disputes to seek help from professional counsellors, religious leaders, her office, or even open up to friends or family members with a view to resolving the differences.

The body of the deceased person has since been taken to the Malindi Sub County hospital mortuary where it is awaiting a post mortem examination to establish the actual cause of death.
