Kenyan gospel music artiste Reuben Kigame has proposed a new way of protesting, which he says will help avert police shootings that have been witnessed during anti-government protests.
Taking to his official X account on Friday, July 26, 2024, the musician said if his new way of protesting is adopted, there will also be no abductions that have been widely reported since the onset of the Gen Z-led protests in the country.

According to Kigame, Kenyans, starting Tuesday, July 30, 2024, should stop the nation from moving forward by staying at home.
The musician who unsuccessfully tried to be a presidential candidate during the 2022 general elections says Kenyans continue being oppressed because everything has been going on smoothly despite the street protests.
Kigame suggests that Kenyans should make sure that they have something in their houses to eat that Tuesday, and stay in their houses to paralyse businesses.
By remaining indoors and minimising movements, he argues that transport will be paralysed, supermarkets will not operate, there will be no groceries, no school, no hospitals, among other things.
“From Tuesday, let us stop the nation from moving forward. They oppress us because everything continues to move. #KaaNyumbani. Make sure you have something to eat. Then, no movement, no car, no supermarket, no groceries, no school, no hospital, no nothing for a whole day,” Kigame stated.
Shootings and abductions
Should Kenyans achieve this, Kigame says there will be no one to shoot at by the police, who have been applying extra force while dealing with the protesters on the streets.
Kigame further argues that abductions will not happen on Tuesday, since there will be no one in the streets to go after.
“There will be no goons, no shooting, no abduction. Nobody out there to kill. except me,” Kigame said in his statement shared on X.

Over the last month, anti-government protesters have found themselves in trouble with the police after taking to the streets to demonstrate in demand of various changes in the government.
Many have been arrested, abducted, killed and injured by bullets and tear gas canisters lobbed by the police.
Journalists have also not been spared, as some have sustained gunshot wounds while covering the protests.
