Kenya’s Jabri Ibrahim has earned global recognition after being appointed to the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’ Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change.

The United Nations Information Service in Nairobi announced the appointment on August 12, 2025, placing Ibrahim among a select team of young leaders from around the world who will advise the UN on accelerating climate action and advancing solutions to the climate crisis.

“Congratulations to Jabri Ibrahim of Kenya, who has been appointed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change,” read the statement.

“Young people are bold innovators, resilient organisers, and essential partners in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Jabri is among the 14 young climate leaders to form the third cohort of his Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change, recognising the critical importance of youth voices and their contributions.

In a statement during the International Youth Day, the secretary-general expanded this cohort from seven to 14 members, citing the concerning global trend of shrinking civic space and funding limitations that are putting young activists at risk and hindering meaningful youth engagement in climate efforts.

The group includes representatives from all regions of the world, with varied identities, experiences, perspectives, and expertise.

Members will be expected to consult widely across youth networks and incorporate outside perspectives in their advice to the UN secretary-general.
