All flights from India to Kenya have been suspended for 14 days following a spike in COVID-19 infections Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

All passengers coming from India will be expected to quarantine for two weeks on arrival.

This comes at a time when the rise in cases of numbers in India has been exponential in the second wave which continues to raise new fears about the ability of health services to cope.

India has seen more Covid-19 cases in the second wave than any other country reporting an all-time high of 314,835 new daily cases on 22nd April.

As of today, the death cases have surged past 200,000 a situation caused by a shortage of oxygen and hospital beds.

In Kenya, the cumulative tests stand at 1,651,008 with 2,665 fatalities.

1,365 patients are currently admitted to various hospitals across the country and another 6,926 patients are on the home-based care program.

The CS However said cargo flights will continue upon adherence to the Coronavirus containment measures.
