Kenya registers 15 new coronavirus cases, total now at 296

Kenya on Tuesday, April 21, announced that it had recorded 15 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total confirmed infections to 296.

Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced in a press conference at Afya House that the 15 cases were discovered in 545 samples tested between Monday and Tuesday.

Eleven of the 15 are Kenyans, whereas four are foreigners.

Mombasa registered seven cases of the 15 new confirmed infections, with Nairobi recording six and Mandera posting one.

Eight of the 15 patients are female, whereas seven are male. The patients are aged between 19 to 75 years old.

None of the new infections was imported, given all the 15 were transmissions from within the country.

Six of the 15 were drawn from quarantine centres, whereas nine were picked up by the Ministry of Health surveillance team.

CAS Mwangangi also announced that five COVID-19 patients in the country have since recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 74.

Dr Mwangangi further stated that Kenya has so far tested 14, 417 samples.

Two thousand, eight hundred and fifty one (2, 851) contacts have since been identified, with 2, 121 tested and discharged, whereas 730 are still being monitored.

Kenya has 14 coronavirus-related deaths recorded.
