Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters in Nairobi have attacked Kenya Red Cross vehicles and staff.

The Kenya Red Cross in a statement on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, said they had been attacked after being accused of whisking Members of Parliament when the protesters stormed the National Assembly.

KRC staff injured

The Kenya Red Cross staff and volunteers were injured during the incident.

However, the Kenya Red Cross has dismissed the accusations against them, terming them as rumours.

“Our vehicles have been attacked. Staff and volunteers were injured. We have no contact or role in transporting persons other than the injured. The rumours must stop,” the Kenya Red Cross said in a statement via X.

The humanitarian organization further stated that it was unable to provide life-saving interventions without access and safety for its staff and volunteers.

The organization says it is unfair for the protesters, whom they have been helping, to accuse them of whisking the MPs.

Kenya Red Cross risking

Kenya Red Cross also noted that its staff and volunteers have put their lives in danger to provide critical medical care to those in need.

“We can’t provide life-saving interventions without access and safety for our staff and volunteers. It is crucial that we are granted access to continue our humanitarian efforts without hindrance.

“It is quite unfair that we are being accused of whisking members of parliament while our staff and volunteers put their lives in danger to provide critical medical care to those in need,” the Kenya Red Cross said.

Protesters on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, overwhelmed security officers and stormed into Parliament Buildings.

Thousands of protesters accessed the Parliament precinct at around 3:00 pm.

Protesters storm parliament

The protesters who were largely made up of young people were recorded running in different directions inside the Parliament Building after overpowering the law enforcement officers who had formed layers of defence around the area.

Some of the protesters were also pictured inside the cafeteria feasting on what appeared to be food meant for Members of Parliament.

They managed to access Parliament Chambers in search of the MPs, who, fortunately, had managed to escape.

After failing to access the MPs, the protesters turned their anger to the Kenya Red Cross staff, accusing them of whisking the lawmakers.
