Kenya records 796 new COVID-19 cases: Here are numbers produced by each affected county

Kenya has recorded 796 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s case-load to 15,601, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said on Thursday, July 23.

The 796 new coronavirus cases were discovered in 6,754 samples tested between Wednesday and Thursday.

All except three patients are Kenyans, said Dr. Mwangangi while addressing journalists at Afya House in Nairobi.

Five hundred and three (503) of the 796 new infections have been recorded among male patients, whereas 293 are female.

The youngest new patient is 1 year old, whereas the oldest is 87 years old.

Eighty nine (89) per cent of the new patients (708) are asymptomatic, said Dr. Mwangangi.

With 539 cases, Nairobi produced the highest number of new infections in Kenya. The capital city was followed by Kiambu (63), Machakos (57), Kajiado (37), Migori (26), Kericho (15), Narok (11), Uasin-Gishu (11), Laikipia (9), Nakuru (7), Busia (6), Mombasa (4), Kisii (3), Murang’a (2) and Siaya (2).

Embu, Kisumu, Trans-Nzoia and Nyeri counties have one case each.

In Nairobi, Kibra produced 64 cases, Dagoretti North (55) and Embakasi East registered 40 infections.

In Kiambu, Ruiru, which produced 17 cases, led in the number of new infections. With nine cases, Thika followed Ruiru.

Three hundred and seventy eight (378) new patients have recovered from the contagion, bringing the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in Kenya to 7,135. One hundred and ninety nine (199) were declared virus-free while under home-based care, whereas 179 were discharged from various hospitals across the country.

Three more patients succumbed to coronavirus disease, pushing Kenya’s death toll to 263.

Kenya has thus far tested 261, 027 samples for COVID-19.
